Quiet the Noise

Life as a parent can be challenging. I remember when I first became a mother.

Pause! Because that was more than 10 years ago... Tears!!

I was twenty years old with twin girls and I was just getting by.


Just getting by financially.

Just getting by physically.

Just getting by mentally.

And barely getting by spiritually.

Just getting by...


I was trying to figure out how to be a good mother, and most days things were good. I made it through. When I reflect back over those years, the good outweighs the bad. But the bad was sometimes difficult to navigate through.


I am grateful! I'm grateful for my tribe that supported me and helped me get through the rough times. I am a better person, a better mom, a better daughter, a better sister, and a better friend. I thank God where He has brought me from.


But for those individuals that are in those times of just getting by or feeling like you can't make it. Let me encourage you and say you can, and you will! I made it through and still to this day I have those moments when I feel like I can't make it. But then I realize a few things that I would like to share with you in this post that helped me along the way of just getting by.


One thing that helped me along the way was taking intentional time away from my children, work, social media, and any other distractions. First off let me say it wasn't always intentional time. Sometimes it was here and there. I would sometimes lock myself in the bathroom just to find a quiet moment.


But silencing the noise around me allowed me time to talk with God. I learned so much about myself and valued these times with my Heavenly Father. I am still learning and progressing in my walk with God. I will never be perfect, and that's okay.


We as parents must learn to quiet the noise.

Turn off the phones!

Take a break from social media!

Turn off the tv!

Turn off the music!

And truly and honestly communion with God!


Here are a few ways you can become more intentional with quieting the noise in your life, and communion with God:

1. Establish a routine - This can be on the way to work. This can be early in the morning before getting ready for your day. This can be late at night before going to bed. Find what works for you. And stick to it!


2. Turn off all and any distractions - Honestly, there's no need to explain this! Just do it! You'll thank me later.


3. Be real! Be Vulnerable! - God knows all about you. But confess all your sins, and cast all your cares onto Him.


4. Take action! - You have to start. Start right now! Start in all of your mess! Don't wait till Monday or next month. Start with 5 minutes then 10 then 20. Start with a pray. Start with reading scripture. Just start! Establish what is best for you and progress and get better.


As parents, it is our number one priority to see that our children are well taken care of. We must be the first example of this. We cannot pour into them as God would have us if we are constantly trying to pour from a half-empty vessel. Remember it starts at home!
